Lok Sabha MP Jothimani has condemned the online harassment directed at Minister Keerthana, asserting that no one has the right to dictate what a woman wears in public. Addressing the controversy surrounding a viral video, Jothimani clarified that the person in the footage is not the minister. She emphasized that even if it were, a woman’s choice of clothing does not warrant public shaming or scrutiny.
Jothimani criticized the societal double standard where men’s changing appearances over time have been accepted, while women’s attire and conduct remain under constant attack. She described the focus on a woman’s body and appearance as a manifestation of patriarchal bias and a form of social violence rather than legitimate criticism. The MP urged society to shift its perspective, stating that the problem lies not in women's clothing, but in the gaze of those who judge them. She further commended Keerthana for her courageous response to the situation, noting that women today are increasingly standing up against such derogatory attacks.
