The Union government has selected two educators from Tamil Nadu for the 2026 National Teachers’ Awards. The recipients are M Thangaraj, a secondary-grade teacher at the Panchayat Union Primary School in Tenkasi, and J Amudha, the headmistress of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 in Madurai.
M Thangaraj, who has taught since 2004, was recognized for his commitment to students from disadvantaged communities and his efforts to enhance school infrastructure. He utilized personal funds to establish a smart digital classroom and employs activity-based teaching methods, including storytelling and audiovisual resources, to foster learning.
J Amudha, a veteran of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan with 22 years of service, credited the award to the collective efforts of her school community. She expressed gratitude to her mentors and colleagues for their support throughout her career, which has focused on academic excellence and promoting social awareness through student programs.
