A 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Andes Mountains in Peru on Thursday. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the tremor occurred at 1 p.m. local time with a depth of 66.7 kilometers.
The epicenter was located 38 kilometers northwest of Upahuacho in the Ayacucho region's Parinacochas province. Residents in several areas, including Ica and Arequipa, reported feeling the shaking.
Authorities have received no immediate reports of damage following the seismic event. Peru is situated along the Pacific "Ring of Fire," a region known for frequent earthquake activity.
