Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been returned to Adiala Jail following a medical evaluation at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. The 73-year-old politician was moved to the medical facility around midnight after the Supreme Court ordered authorities to provide him with specialized care due to health concerns.
Doctors at the hospital deemed it safe for Khan to remain in custody, leading to his transfer back to his prison cell under tight security. His legal team has previously raised concerns regarding his deteriorating health, specifically citing a significant loss of vision in his right eye, while the government maintains that the cases against him are not politically motivated.
The government initially challenged the Supreme Court order, arguing that medical treatment for prisoners should occur within jail facilities or public hospitals. However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry later confirmed that the administration would comply with the court's ruling, following threats from Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party to file a contempt petition.
