Iran has announced the discovery of over 200 billion cubic metres of natural gas in the southern Fars province. Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad stated that approximately 160 billion cubic metres of the find are considered extractable.
The minister described the discovery as sweet natural gas, noting that its low hydrogen sulphide content will reduce future development and operating costs. Despite the find, reports indicate that actual production from the new field is likely several years away.
This discovery comes as Iran’s energy sector continues to face challenges following strikes on infrastructure and oil depots. These facilities have been targeted during the ongoing conflict that began in late February.
