Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi granted his assent on August 6 to the bill amending the state's law providing priority in government employment for those who studied in Tamil medium. The official notification regarding this amendment has been published in the Tamil Nadu Government Gazette.
Under the revised legislation, the preference for Tamil-medium candidates will apply exclusively to direct recruitment for government positions. The amendment is set to be retrospectively effective from September 7, 2010.
