The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a temporary ban on the sale of compounded asafoetida, or hing, produced by Everest Food Products and Laljee Godhoo & Co. The regulatory action follows laboratory test results indicating that these products failed to meet prescribed quality standards.
Investigations revealed that the samples contained only 0% to 3% alcohol-soluble extract, falling short of the mandatory 5% requirement. The ban remains in effect as authorities address these quality violations.
