The DMK has accused the TVK government of a "historic betrayal" following the omission of references to Jawaharlal Nehru, Periyar E.V. Ramasamy, B.R. Ambedkar, and the Justice Party from the state government's policy note on backward classes welfare. The document, tabled in the assembly, notably excluded details regarding the 1951 reservation agitation and the First Constitutional Amendment, which were prominent in previous policy notes.
DMK legal wing joint secretary I. Paranthaman alleged that the exclusion was a calculated conspiracy to erase the history of the social justice movement. VCK general secretary V. Sinthanai Selvan also demanded an explanation from the chief secretary, calling for the restoration of the references and an apology for what he termed the suppression of history.
In response to the controversy, Minister V. Sampath Kumar has taken moral responsibility for the lapse. He stated that the government is taking steps to publish a revised version of the policy note.
