A team of elite mountain guides and Everest veterans has joined rescue operations in Nepal's flood-ravaged Rasuwa district. The specialists entered a mud-choked tunnel at the Chilime hydropower project on Saturday, advancing 120 meters before thick sludge and debris forced them to halt their search for six missing individuals.
The rescue team, which includes highly trained climbers like Jenjen Lama and Ashish Gurung, utilized specialized skills such as rope fixing and cliff access to navigate terrain where roads have been destroyed. While the team recovered a camera bag, they determined that heavy excavation equipment and pumps are required to safely reach deeper sections of the tunnel.
Authorities are currently working to reconcile attendance records across multiple hydropower projects, including Upper Trishuli-1, where approximately 300 workers are believed to be trapped. The affected workforce includes nationals from Nepal, India, China, and South Korea, as rescue operations continue across the flood-hit corridor.
