Police in Nepal have detained 29 individuals accused of breaking into a bank safe that was swept away by floodwaters. The safe, which originated in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa on September 10, was discovered along the Trishuli River in Dhading two days later.
Authorities recovered 9,268,505 Nepalese rupees from the suspects, who range in age from 19 to 49. Police are currently investigating the incident to determine if additional suspects were involved in the theft.
In a separate development, two people were arrested for allegedly stealing gold earrings from a flood victim's body. Meanwhile, national disaster authorities have updated the death toll to 626, with 2,426 people currently reported missing following the catastrophic flooding.
