Flash flooding in Arizona’s Grand Canyon National Park has left an estimated 15 people missing and forced the evacuation of at least 62 others. The severe weather struck the Bright Angel Canyon and Phantom Ranch areas on Saturday, destroying multiple footbridges and causing significant infrastructure damage.
Search and rescue operations remain ongoing, with additional evacuations planned for the Cottonwood Campground and Phantom Ranch areas. While no injuries have been confirmed, the National Park Service has requested that the public provide any information regarding hikers who may have been in the vicinity during the storms.
Authorities have warned that the danger persists as further storms are expected in the region. Rainfall rates reaching one inch per hour have increased the risk of additional flash flooding, debris flows, and rockfalls, which continue to threaten trail conditions and hiker safety.
