Divya Mittal, a 2013-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, announced her voluntary resignation on August 30, 2026. She described her 13-year tenure as an unforgettable journey dedicated to serving the nation.
During her tenure in Uttar Pradesh, Mittal served as District Magistrate in Deoria, Mirzapur and Sant Kabir Nagar.
During her tenure in Mirzapur, she worked on bringing piped water to a remote village where people had depended on tankers. After roughly 75 years of waiting, water finally reached 125 households.
The village is called Lahuria Dah, tucked into the semi-arid hills of Mirzapur district in eastern Uttar Pradesh, home to around 1,500 people, most of them families who had spent generations relying on water tankers, a cracked well, and a reservoir too far to reach on foot.Then, Divya Mittal arrived as the district's new magistrate, and the project finally moved. She worked with engineers to redesign the water-lifting system that had made the job seem financially and geographically impossible in the first place, and by the end of August 2023, tap water was running into 125 homes for the very first time.
