A woman fatally stabbed one person and critically injured another in New York City's Times Square on Monday. The incident occurred near 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue before the suspect fled toward an NYPD substation.
Police confronted the woman, who was armed with two large knives. After officers attempted to use a taser, the suspect moved toward them, prompting police to open fire. The woman was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Authorities confirmed that one of the stabbing victims also died at a hospital, while the second remains in critical condition. Police stated the incident does not appear to be terror-related and described the suspect as apparently emotionally disturbed.
