Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is expected to announce plans to relocate the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly and secretariat from Fort St. George during the current assembly session. The announcement is anticipated under rule 110, which allows the Chief Minister to inform the house of government decisions without debate.
The government is considering three potential sites for the new complex: the Highways Research Station campus in Guindy, Foreshore Estate, and a location opposite Fintech City in Nandambakkam. Each site spans at least 20 acres, providing sufficient space for government operations, visitors, and parking. Officials cite significant space constraints at the current Fort St. George facility due to expanding government programs.
While a final site selection is pending, the Chief Minister and his secretaries are scheduled to relocate their offices to the 10th floor of the Namakkal Kavignar Maligai building by December 15.
