The Communist Party of India (CPI) Tamil Nadu State Executive Committee has called for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged sexual exploitation case in Salem. Manickandan, 40, from Kondalampatti, Salem city, was arrested on June 12, 2026, and remanded to judicial custody for allegedly luring over 50 impoverished women with loans and forcing them into sexual exploitation. The CPI expressed deep concern over the increasing number of sexual assault crimes. The party urged the government to fully expand the "Singappen Special Force," established by the new administration to ensure women's safety. The committee emphasized that the investigation should not be limited to Manickandan alone. It demanded a thorough probe into his political background and the identification of all individuals who supported him, uncovering the full extent of the crime's background. The CPI also raised suspicions about potential police negligence, stating that such long-standing commercial exploitation could not have gone unnoticed by law enforcement. To ensure a fair investigation, the CPI Tamil Nadu State Executive Committee has urged the Tamil Nadu government to transfer the case to the CBCID.
