The National Payments Corporation of India reported that UPI processed a record 24.51 billion transactions in August. This figure marks a significant increase from the 23.66 billion transactions recorded in July and represents a 22% rise compared to the same month last year.
While the total transaction volume reached an all-time peak, the value of these payments stood at Rs 29.82 lakh crore. This total is slightly below the record high of Rs 29.9 lakh crore observed in May and July, though it still reflects a 20% annual growth rate.
Officials attributed the surge in transaction volume to increased everyday usage and festive activity, such as Raksha Bandhan. As the payment system expands its international reach to 11 countries, including the recent addition of Uzbekistan, it continues to serve as a central component of India's digital economy.
