Farmers arrested during protest in Chennai

Police arrested a group of farmers protesting in the Egmore area of Chennai today. The demonstrators had gathered to demand increased government support for agricultural equipment.

Key among their requests was a call for the government to provide tractors to farmers who do not own them. The protesters argued that this initiative should be implemented following a model similar to the provision of cars to Members of the Legislative Assembly.
