Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced a series of major water infrastructure projects in the Legislative Assembly today under Rule 110, aimed at ensuring safe and uninterrupted water supply across the state. The initiatives, totaling an investment of Rs 4,800 crore, include the construction of a 400 million-liter-per-day desalination plant in Minjur to serve North Chennai, Avadi, Ponneri, and Minjur.
Additional allocations include Rs 500 crore for a 24-hour water supply project in Avadi, and Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade water facilities in the Madurai and Cuddalore municipal corporations, along with nine municipalities and 20 town panchayats. Furthermore, the government has earmarked Rs 300 crore for the first phase of rehabilitating 33 aging combined water supply schemes, and Rs 410 crore to expand the capacity of the Kilpauk water treatment plant in Chennai.
