WhatsApp has introduced a new bill payment service in India, enabling users to manage and settle household utility expenses directly within the messaging application. Powered by the Bharat Connect network, the feature supports payments to over 22,700 billers across 30 categories, including electricity, gas, water, insurance, and credit card services.
Users can access the service by tapping the rupee icon on the app's home screen. This interface allows individuals to track upcoming bills, review payment history, and manage multiple accounts under a single provider using their preferred payment method.
Arun Srinivas, Managing Director and Country Head of Meta India, stated that the initiative aims to simplify routine financial tasks by integrating them into the platform. The company intends to extend the convenience of digital payments to users across the country, making bill settlement as straightforward as sending a message.
