Heavy rainfall struck Delhi-NCR on Friday, prompting the India Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for intense thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The sudden downpour disrupted Janmashtami celebrations and caused significant waterlogging at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Flight operations were notably affected, with several domestic arrivals from cities including Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Port Blair facing delays. IndiGo issued a travel advisory urging passengers to check their flight status and allow extra time for travel due to difficult road conditions caused by the weather.
The weather department forecasts continued light to moderate rainfall throughout the evening, with isolated areas potentially receiving between 50 mm and 100 mm of rain. Officials warned that these conditions will likely be accompanied by strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph.
