The Electricity Board has introduced new guidelines and software updates to its LT billing system to address consumer complaints regarding billing errors and significant fluctuations in residential electricity charges. Under the new protocol, consumers who recorded electricity usage exceeding 500 units during July and August will be placed on a monitoring list.
For the current September and October billing cycle, the system will automatically suspend payment collection if the calculated bill shows an increase of 20 percent or more compared to previous months. In such cases, officials ranging from Assistant Accounts Officers to Assistant Executive Engineers are mandated to conduct physical site inspections to verify the readings. These inspections must be completed within three working days of the meter reading to ensure billing accuracy.
