Nine people have died after consuming illicit liquor in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. The tragedy occurred in Baraj and surrounding villages within the Banda tehsil, where more than 25 others have been hospitalized for treatment. Officials fear the death toll may rise as several of the hospitalized patients remain in critical condition.
District Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania is leading an investigation at the scene, and the bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations. A magisterial inquiry into the incident has also been ordered. District Collector Pratibha Pal has urged anyone who consumed alcohol in the last 24 to 48 hours to seek immediate medical attention, while medical teams have been deployed to the affected villages to conduct screenings. The district administration has vowed to take strict action against those responsible for the sale of the illicit liquor.
