The Madras High Court has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the delay in granting sanction to prosecute two IAS officers involved in the tender irregularities case against former minister S.P. Velumani. During the hearing before Justice N. Anand Venkatesh, the central government stated that the matter is currently under consideration.
Justice Venkatesh remarked that it is distressing for the court to repeatedly insist on obtaining sanctions in corruption cases. He observed that prosecuting influential individuals in India is exceptionally difficult, adding that if securing permission involves such complications, the future of the case remains uncertain.
To address the delay, the court has ordered the Under Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Training to appear via video conference to provide an explanation. The proceedings have been adjourned to September 16.
