Artificial intelligence agents have surpassed human users in the consumption of tokens, the small units of text processed by AI models. According to data from OpenRouter, a platform providing access to multiple AI models, this shift occurred on February 6, 2026.
Since that crossover point, the usage of tokens by AI agents has accelerated significantly. Current consumption levels by these agents have reached 7.3 trillion tokens, a figure nearly five times higher than that of human users, with the growth trend continuing to rise rapidly.
