The incident mirrored a similar controversy from the 2025 Men's Asia Cup final at the same venue, where the Indian team also did not receive the trophy due to the presence of Naqvi, who serves as Pakistan's Interior Minister. Following the women's final, BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Devajit Saikia presented individual medals to the Indian players before the team returned to the dressing room.
In the match itself, India posted a total of 183/5, driven by half-centuries from Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana. Sri Lanka was subsequently bowled out for 111, with Indian spinner Sree Charani claiming four wickets. The win marks another dominant performance for India in the regional tournament.
