Actor Soori continues his transition from comedy to serious roles in Mandadi, a sports drama centered on the rarely explored world of competitive sailing. The story follows Kaali, a former sailing champion who returns to his hometown after years of self-imposed exile. He is soon drawn back into old rivalries and betrayals, culminating in a high-stakes showdown against his antagonist, Sattaipuli, played by Suhas. While the core narrative—featuring a protagonist returning to face past conflicts—follows a predictable path, the performances by Soori and Suhas provide the necessary intensity to keep the audience engaged. Mahima Nambiar and Sathyaraj also deliver solid supporting performances.
The film’s technical execution is its standout feature, particularly the exhilarating sailing sequences. Cinematographer S.R. Kathir captures the vastness of the ocean and the intensity of the races with precision, while G.V. Prakash Kumar’s background score and the immersive sound design heighten the tension.
