The Indian government has announced that veteran actor Anant Nag will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024. The 78-year-old actor, who has appeared in over 250 films across five decades, is being recognized for his significant contributions to Indian cinema. The award will be presented at the National Film Awards ceremony in Kevadia, Gujarat, on September 22.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the actor on the achievement, praising his versatility and the depth he brought to his roles in both Kannada and Hindi cinema. The Press Information Bureau stated that the award is a tribute to his illustrious cinematic journey that has inspired generations of artists.
Known for his work in acclaimed films such as Minchina Ota, Hamsageethe, Ankur, and Manthan, Nag is also a prominent figure in the theatre world. The selection was made based on the recommendation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee.
