Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman has demanded a swift investigation and the death penalty for businessman Gem Veeramani and his accomplices in connection with a series of child sexual abuse cases. Seeman described the previous DMK government’s handling of the case as an "unacceptable betrayal," alleging that officials had failed to act despite having evidence.
In a statement, Seeman expressed shock over the revelations, comparing the scale of the abuse to the Epstein files. He accused the previous administration of negligence, stating that although complaints were filed against Veeramani with supporting evidence, the police failed to make arrests and attempted to weaken the case in court by claiming a lack of evidence. He further criticized the authorities for failing to act even after video evidence of the abuse was submitted.
Seeman credited the special POCSO court for its intervention, noting that the court’s refusal to accept the police report filed by the previous government was a crucial step toward justice. He called for criminal and departmental action against the police officers who allegedly shielded the accused.
"The entire chain of criminals, including politicians, high-ranking officials, and intermediaries involved in this network, must be identified and brought to justice," Seeman stated. He argued that the political influence and wealth of individuals like Veeramani have allowed them to operate with impunity for over 40 years. He also criticized both the DMK and AIADMK for their failure to ensure the safety of women and children during their respective tenures.
Seeman urged the current government to ensure a fast-track trial and the maximum possible punishment for all those involved, including Shanthi and Mahendrasimhan. He emphasized that the government's focus should shift from token financial assistance schemes to creating a safe environment where women and children can live without fear.
