Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph Vijay has expressed condolences to those who died due to the ammonia gas leak in Tiruvallur.
In this regard, the Chief Minister has released a statement. In the statement, it was mentioned that today (21.06.2026), in Kannigaipair village near Periyapalayam, Uthukottai taluk, Tiruvallur district, an unexpected ammonia gas leak occurred in the production unit of a private fish food export factory, affecting 64 persons (60 women, 4 men) who were on duty there. Unfortunately, 2 women died in this accident.
15 persons are under intensive observation in a government hospital. 23 persons have been admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital. 24 persons have been admitted to a private hospital and are under observation. I have ordered an inspection to be conducted by the Director of Industrial Safety and Health Department, Additional Director of Public Health Department, and the Member-Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board, and to submit the preliminary inquiry report within 24 hours and the full inquiry report within 3 days.
I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the tragic news that two women died in this incident. While expressing my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the two women who died in this accident, I have also ordered the payment of two lakh rupees each from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund.
Furthermore, I have ordered arrangements to be made at government expense to send their bodies to their native states for burial. Additionally, I have ordered special treatment for those admitted to the hospital due to this accident.
