Ammonia Leak Death Toll Rises to 16 in Tiruvallur

The death toll from an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing factory in Kannigaipair village, near Periyapalayam, Tiruvallur district, has risen to 16. The latest fatality is Kabita Junga, an 18-year-old female worker from Odisha, who succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Chennai Stanley Hospital. The unexpected incident at the factory caused 83 workers to faint. Many also experienced severe eye irritation and breathing difficulties. The affected individuals were promptly rescued and admitted to various hospitals, including Manjankaranai Vels Medical College Hospital, Siruniyam Venkateswara Hospital, Chennai Stanley Government Medical College Hospital, and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospitals. Fifteen people had previously died in connection with this tragic accident.
