Prakash Javadekar, who served from July 5, 2016, to May 30, 2019, established the Higher Education Financing Agency, oversaw the drafting of the NEP 2020, and enacted the IIM Act. Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' served from May 30, 2019, to July 7, 2021, and led the initial rollout of NEP 2020 reforms, including the new school structure and an emphasis on mother-tongue instruction.
Dharmendra Pradhan assumed office on July 7, 2021. His tenure has included the nationwide implementation of NEP 2020, the launch of the PM SHRI Schools scheme, and the emergence of allegations regarding irregularities and paper leaks in the NEET-UG 2021 examination.
