Supreme Court Justice Ujjal Bhuyan has questioned the arrest and three-month detention of 14 individuals who were denied bail for eating chicken biryani on a boat in the Ganges River. Speaking at a college event, Justice Bhuyan condemned the incident, stating that such actions are detrimental to democracy.
Expressing concern over a growing trend of criminalizing the everyday activities of ordinary citizens, the judge warned that the shrinking public space for dissent poses a significant threat to democratic values.
