Farmers Urged to Insure Horticulture Crops
Erode, July 16: Erode Collector Kanthasamy has urged farmers to insure their horticulture crops for the current Kharif season under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY). This initiative aims to protect farmers' livelihoods against crop losses caused by natural calamities. The Collector's statement highlighted concerns that the Southwest monsoon might be less than normal due to the El Niño phenomenon, potentially affecting rain-fed crops. Therefore, crop insurance has been announced for current crops.Farmers can insure onion and potato crops by August 31, and banana, tapioca, and turmeric crops by September 15. The scheme covers losses due to yield reduction, inability to sow or plant, failed planting, risks during the crop growth period, and post-harvest damages. Farmers who have taken loans can register for insurance through their respective primary agricultural cooperative societies and nationalized banks. Non-loan-receiving farmers can apply at e-Seva centers, cooperative banks, nationalized banks, or directly via the 'Farmers Corner' on the National Crop Insurance portal, https://pmsby.gov.in.Required documents for registration include a proposal application, registration application, Adangal provided by the VAO, sowing report, a copy of the first page of the bank passbook, Aadhaar card number, payment receipt, and details of the village and sub-district. For further information, farmers can contact their block horticulture assistant director or horticulture officer.
