Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary has returned a Rs 99-lakh subsidy he received for his cucumber farm. The funds were granted under a horticulture scheme managed by the National Horticulture Board, an autonomous body operating under his own ministry.
Minister of State for Agriculture Ramnath Thakur confirmed the refund in a written response to the Lok Sabha. Thakur stated that Choudhary has repaid the amount to the relevant bank, which has now been instructed to transfer the funds back to the National Horticulture Board.
The subsidy was part of a project covering 16,592 square metres, approved in 2025 under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture. The scheme is designed to promote large-scale commercial farming for vegetables and flowers.
