Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of either authorizing police brutality against NEET protesters in Delhi or being incompetent. Gandhi alleged that he witnessed the Home Minister monitoring the situation and directing police officers during the recent demonstrations, where he claimed protesters were subjected to pellet guns and nail-studded lathis.
Following the passage of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, in the Lok Sabha, Gandhi dismissed the legislation as a superficial measure that fails to address the root causes of examination irregularities. He further alleged that he was repeatedly denied the opportunity to speak in Parliament unless he apologized for his remarks, a condition he firmly rejected while asserting his right to raise national issues.
Gandhi also claimed that authorities are utilizing facial recognition technology and mobilizing the Bajrang Dal to intimidate students. While BJP leaders have rejected these allegations and demanded evidence or an apology, Gandhi maintained that the treatment of students remains the central issue and accused the Home Minister of avoiding the Lok Sabha due to guilt.
