Two additional deaths in Sivasagar and Charaideo have raised the total flood-related death toll in Assam to 82 this year. Currently, 192,799 people remain affected across five districts, including Sivasagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Charaideo. While the overall situation has shown signs of improvement, approximately 13,000 individuals are still sheltered in 54 relief camps.
State authorities are coordinating relief efforts through the NDRF and SDRF while monitoring the Dikhow and Dhansiri rivers, which remain at severe flood levels. The government is prioritizing damage assessments to expedite the release of repair funds. Additionally, officials have directed the Power Department to distribute Rs 41.67 crore in subsidies to 9,289 beneficiaries by Tuesday.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the government will meet with insurance companies and non-banking financial companies on August 5 to facilitate claim settlements and loan moratoriums. These measures follow a decision to grant a six-month moratorium on loan repayments for flood-affected residents in the four hardest-hit districts.
