The Tamil Nadu government has moved the Supreme Court to secure its due share of Cauvery water from Karnataka. The state government contends that while Karnataka currently holds 77 TMC of water, Tamil Nadu is entitled to 26.954 TMC. However, the state reports that only 4.5 TMC has been released.
Tamil Nadu officials further stated that Karnataka has failed to release the required water despite directives from the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the regulation committee. The state maintains that the neighboring government has not complied with the mandated water release protocols.
