The Tamil Nadu government has removed the mandatory requirement for agriculture department approval when converting dry land for industrial use. This amendment to the 2017 land use rules aims to streamline the approval process and improve the ease of doing business in the state.
Under the new regulations, the Director of Town and Country Planning can now approve applications directly after verifying documents, such as revenue records and satellite imagery. This change eliminates the previous necessity of obtaining a no-objection certificate from the joint director of agriculture, a process that previously required proof of at least three years of non-cultivation.
Industry representatives, including the Confederation of Indian Industry, welcomed the decision, noting that it will expedite industrial projects. Officials expect the streamlined process to particularly benefit industrialization efforts in tier-2 and tier-3 cities as well as rural areas.
