Concerns Raised Over Mettur Dam Water Contamination

Reports have emerged that water in the Mettur Dam reservoir near Eriyur in Dharmapuri district has turned green and is emitting a foul odor due to chemical contamination. Residents in surrounding villages have expressed alarm, with claims that the pollution is linked to an outbreak of viral fever in the area.

Tamil Nadu BJP state president Nainar Nagendran has voiced serious concern, noting that the reservoir serves as a vital source for both drinking water and irrigation. He emphasized that with the Karnataka government failing to release adequate Cauvery water, it is the state's duty to protect existing reserves. Nagendran has urged Water Resources Department officials to conduct an immediate investigation into the cause of the contamination.

In a statement addressed to Chief Minister Vijay, Nagendran called for urgent action to ensure all water bodies across Tamil Nadu are properly maintained and kept safe for public use.
