At least nine people, including a child, died after a major fire broke out at a hotel on Free School Street in Kolkata early Wednesday. The blaze began around 2:00 am, trapping guests inside the building located near the busy New Market area.
Initial reports suggest that an air-conditioner explosion may have triggered the fire, although officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause. The incident prompted a significant rescue operation to evacuate those caught in the flames.
Four fire tenders and a disaster management team were deployed to the scene to combat the blaze. Firefighters successfully brought the fire under control after conducting rescue efforts to reach the trapped individuals.
