Minister Vanni Arasu has criticized Dravidian parties for approaching the Dalit community from a position of pity rather than genuine empowerment. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister questioned whether the practice of fielding Dalit candidates in general constituencies by the DMK and AIADMK is a matter of policy or merely a gesture of sympathy.
Arasu further noted that a mindset persists in rural areas that views the progress of Dalits with disdain. Regarding the current administration's stance, he pointed out that while the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) had four MLAs during the previous DMK regime, the party now holds two seats but has been granted a position in the cabinet, which he described as a reflection of the government's current policy.
