The Madras High Court has reprimanded Finance Minister Mariywilson for seeking an exemption from appearing in a local court in connection with a case involving an alleged assault on his brother. During the proceedings, the judge questioned the minister's stance, stating that he is not the King of England and cannot simply refuse to attend court hearings.
Highlighting the importance of judicial process, the judge cited the example of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, who appeared in court while holding office. The court observed that it is unacceptable for the minister to avoid appearances now, especially since he had previously attended court proceedings before assuming his ministerial role.
