Minister Aadav Arjuna told the Legislative Assembly that while total prohibition could be implemented in a single day, the government faces significant practical challenges in doing so. He highlighted the urgent need to address the growing number of people suffering from alcohol addiction, noting that many who began by drinking once a week have since become dependent and ill.
To combat this, the Minister emphasized the necessity of establishing rehabilitation centers. However, he clarified that these facilities cannot be launched immediately, as they require the specialized support of doctors, counselors, and psychologists. The government is currently spearheading a large-scale awareness campaign against alcohol consumption, modeled after AIDS awareness initiatives, and expects to see positive results soon.
