US Central Command forces struck Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets on Tuesday, citing retaliation for attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian state media reported that four people, including a child, died after shrapnel hit a home in Sirik. US Navy Captain Tim Hawkins stated that the US military does not target civilians. These strikes followed earlier US actions against rocket launchers on Larak Island.
In response, Iran launched ballistic missiles at US military bases in Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The Jordanian Armed Forces confirmed they intercepted 13 missiles with no casualties reported. The IRGC warned of further consequences, while former President Donald Trump threatened escalation if Iran continues its response. Hostilities have resumed following the expiration of a June ceasefire agreement.
Despite the current conflict, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian suggested that Iran would reciprocate if the US returned to the previous agreement. The US continues to enforce a naval blockade and has implemented new sanctions against the nation.
