China, the United States, and India remain the world's top carbon dioxide emitters, according to 2024 data from the World Population Review. China accounts for 33.12 percent of global emissions, totaling 13,125 megatonnes. The United States holds the second position, while India ranks third with 3,154 megatonnes. The rise in emissions is primarily attributed to industrial growth and the continued reliance on fossil fuels.
Despite India's high total output, its per capita emission rate stands at 2.19 tonnes, significantly lower than that of the United States and Russia. Russia, Japan, Iran, and Indonesia follow in the rankings. As climate change drives rising sea levels, melting glaciers, and extreme weather, experts emphasize that reducing carbon emissions is a collective global responsibility requiring a transition to renewable energy and cleaner technologies.
