Five people died and five others were injured after an Amazon cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport on Sunday. Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz confirmed the Boeing 767-300, operated by 21 Air, crashed at 1:58 p.m. after overrunning runway 30. The aircraft had arrived from San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Of the five injured individuals transported to local hospitals, three remain in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or the hospitalized victims. Following the incident, airport officials reopened two of the four runways, though the crash caused approximately 250 flight delays throughout the afternoon.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched investigations into the cause of the crash. Amazon and 21 Air both expressed their condolences to the families affected and confirmed they are cooperating fully with federal authorities during the ongoing inquiry.
