The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is facing criticism over a social media campaign featuring a poster that targets individuals with the surname Singh. The campaign, which uses the slogan "Self-deport or find out," is part of a broader effort to encourage undocumented immigrants to leave the country voluntarily through the CBP Home program.
Advocacy groups, including the Hindu American Foundation and the Sikh Coalition, have condemned the post as racist and discriminatory. They argue that the imagery unfairly profiles Indian-origin communities and Sikhs, who represent a significant portion of the American trucking workforce, rather than focusing solely on individuals with illegal status.
In response to the controversy, the Hindu American Foundation has called for an official investigation into the federal agency's messaging. The DHS program currently offers travel assistance and a $2,600 exit bonus to undocumented migrants who choose to register for voluntary departure.
