Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to New Delhi to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, scheduled for September 12 and 13. The visit follows an invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and marks the president's first trip to India in seven years.
Xi is expected to lead a large delegation of approximately 400 officials, more than double the size of the group that accompanied him during his 2019 visit. The Chinese foreign ministry stated that Beijing attaches great importance to BRICS cooperation and supports India’s role as the current summit chair.
The visit occurs as both nations engage in high-level diplomatic efforts to stabilize relations following years of border tensions. Recent discussions between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing focused on maintaining border tranquility and strengthening bilateral ties.
