The Tamil Nadu Transport Department has issued a directive requiring private bus operators to provide alternative travel arrangements for passengers if their pre-booked tickets are cancelled. Authorities have warned that operators who fail to comply with this mandate will face strict action, including the potential revocation of their permits.
This measure coincides with a statewide vehicle inspection drive, running until September 16, aimed at curbing excessive fare charges and identifying violations related to tax and fitness certificates during the Vinayagar Chaturthi holiday period. Officials have already fined 400 omni buses for various infractions.
During the enforcement operations, four out-of-state buses operating with invalid documentation were seized. The transport department ensured that all passengers affected by these seizures were safely transferred to alternative transport services.
