Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam secretary Ayilai Sivasuriyan has urged authorities to ensure the full treatment of city sewage, particularly near the Panchappur bus terminus. Delta farmers, currently preparing Samba lands using water from the Mettur dam, remain concerned about the impact of this pollution on the water-stressed basin.
Construction of a new 100 MLD sewage treatment plant is currently underway as part of the AMRUT 2.0 initiative. While the facility is expected to utilize modern technology, its completion is targeted for mid-2026 due to weather-related delays. Authorities have not yet issued a response regarding the recent reports of contamination.
